Apple has launched a new ‘premium iTunes service’, allowing users to play iTunes songs on any MP3 Player. Initially, the entire music catalogue of EMI will be available to purchase DRM-Free (without digital rights management) and consumers will have the choice to get a higher quality DRM-Free download for an extra 30 cents. The new downloads will sell for $1.29 compared with the standard 99c versions. The deal was announced by Apple chief executive Steve Jobs and EMI head Eric Nicoli. The new tracks will be made available from next month and Apple predicts other record labels will follow EMI’s lead.
